Dr. Kyra Belan at Arts for ACT Gallery in September

Dr. Kyra Belan is exhibiting her SACRED LADIES series of works at Arts for ACT Gallery downtown Fort Myers during the month of September. These series of paintings, drawings, mixed, or digital works celebrate the legendary female figures through history, from prehistoric to contemporary.
In her Artist's Statement Belan said:
This exhibition is about celebrating the Sacred Ladies that have appeared in the legends and myths of humanity since prehistoric to contemporary times. They are a part of our culture, and deeply affect our perceptions of reality and spirituality.
Beyond these myths, I celebrate the supreme Sacred Lady, our Mother Earth. I hope that this show correctly reflects the beauty of every being that exists on the planet, as we are the children of our Mother.

I have four artworks in the show, three paintings and one drawing. The show opening was scheduled during the Fort Myers Art Walk, and everyone had a great time. The gallery was packed, and I got many compliments on my works. They loved all, but perhaps The Madonna Rafaelina got the most compliments. This one is a painting on canvas done in oil paints.
The show is open to the public till the end of April.

Examiner has an article on my SECAC panel in Durham SC

The Examiner's two page article is by Thomas Hall, Arts & Exhibits. It was out on October 16, 2012.
Hope that you will like it.
Durham is a beautiful city, and I was lucky to see the trees turning colors. What a spectacle! We do not get this in Florida.
The convention next to Marriott was great, very conveniently located and had a great set up for the art lecture. The restaurants near by were outstanding, and the people there are very friendly. I had a great time.

Goddess Athena Drawing

Goddess Athena Drawing

This drawing of the goddess is done on paper with wood-less graphite pencils. I also wrote a poem to celebrate Athena in the background. Athena is a complex divinity, there are many variations of her myths. I based this depiction on a copy of a sculpture of Athena from ancient Greece that I saw at the museum there. She is holding the Goddess of Victory in her right hand, and is supporting her shield. You can see her serpent behind the shield.
My research confirmed that her worship dated well beyond ancient Greece, into prehistoric times when she was the Mother Goddess.
Her temple in Athens, The Parthenon, is considered to be the perfect example Greek architecture.
She is an archetype of a woman of power and creativity; thus, appeals to many women world wide.

Mixed Media Art

Mixed Media Art

I like creating paintings in mixed media; for this image of Lady Liberty I used my photo of the Grand Canyon, and I painted the statue in acrylic, from my own photo. To produce this work, I traveled to the Grand Canyon and to NY, two different trips that were equally enjoyable, but very different. The symbolism of this work is that both the Lady, and the Grand Canyon represent the feminine aspect of our existence.

White Hibiscus

White Hibiscus

The white hibiscus flowers are relatively rare compared to pink or red ones; I decided to paint this painting, 40.00" x 30.00" , acrylic on canvas, after some thought. I named it Inanna, after a very ancient Sumerian goddess. Inanna means Queen of Heaven, and her festival is celebrated on New Year's day. To me it represents an aspect of feminine beauty, as well as the beauty of nature.

Kyra Belan Artist Blog

Hi friends and visitors:
Today is the first day of autumn and a good day to post. I recently joined Artists Websites and Fine Art America, and am very pleased with my site so far. It is nice to be a part of this powerful network, and I am looking forward to starting my gallery site soon.
At this time I am working on some paintings, including the large canvas of close-ups of hibiscus flowers. Being a long time resident of Florida, I particularly enjoy the beauty of this flower.
But I also been an installation artist for over two decades, and always enjoy creating this form of art. I will post some on my galleries site in the future. Meantime, hope that you will enjoy my paintings and drawings.
